The Betagro Group plans to offer a
smarter point-of-purchase electronic traceability system
that not only enables consumers to verify the quality of the
group's pork products but also prints cooking tips and
recipes.
Since the beginning of this year, the
group has successfully installed 11 ''Spy on Me'' kiosks,
part of the innovative point-of-purchase e-traceability
system at supermarkets under The Mall Group, Emporium and
Siam Paragon.

Scanning the
barcode of a meat package will give shoppers
valuable details, while new applications besides
recipes are now being planned. |
The system, claimed to be the first of
its kind in Thailand, has already been used to check quality
of fresh chicken for several years, according to Betagro
Group executive vice-president Nopporn Vayuchote.
''Apart from increasing the number of
kiosks, the company is currently in the process of enhancing
the technology so that it can print out recipes, cooking
tips, food-safety tips and more,'' he said.
At the kiosks, consumers are able to
trace pork and chicken products under Betagro's S-Pure brand
back to their origins simply by scanning the products'
barcodes at any kiosks available in Bangkok.
Betagro is also co-operating with the
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to launch a
consumer protection programme through the e-traceability
function by allowing consumers to trace back the meat
quality via the BMA website www.vet.bma.com. Besides Betagro,
two other food processors, Charoen Pokphand Foods and the
Thai Dairy Farm Co-operatives, have also joined the BMA on
this food-safety promotion campaign.
